Scope of work

Phase 2 of the project includes installing a sanitary trunk sewer, replacing the watermain, reconstructing the road, and replacing storm catch basins and leads on Ontario Road between Alberta Street and King Street.

The new sewer will connect to the recently constructed sewer along Ontario Road between King Street and just east of Memorial Park Drive. It will also connect to the existing system leading to the Ontario Road Sewage Pumping Station.

Crews will install the sanitary sewer approximately seven to eight metres below ground using open-trench excavation. This work requires crews to dig an open trench in the roadway and will require road closures during construction.

The project also includes a new 300-millimetre watermain, as well as new curbs and sidewalks along Ontario Road between King Street and Alberta Street.

Phase 1 is expected to be complete by September 2026 and includes work along Ontario Road from west of Alberta Street to east of Memorial Park Drive.

Phase 2 will begin in September 2026 and includes work along Ontario Road from King Street to west of Alberta Street. All construction is expected to be complete by spring 2027.

Traffic disruptions

Some roads and intersections will need to close during construction. Detour routes and signs will be in place to help guide drivers.

Road closure details:

• During Phase 2, Ontario Road will close in sections between King Street and Alberta Street until December 2026.
• Ontario Road west of the Southworth Street intersection will remain closed until September.
• Ontario Road will be closed to through traffic from west of Alberta Street to west of Wright Street from April 15 to September.
• Businesses at Rose City Plaza will remain open throughout construction. From April 15 to September, access will be available from the Wright Street entrance only.
• Temporary access from Coventry Road is for emergency vehicles and delivery trucks only.
• Follow posted detour signs and allow extra travel time.
• Dates may change due to weather or unexpected construction issues.

Water shutdowns

Crews will need to temporarily turn off water service at times to connect new services and the new watermain to the existing system.

We will provide as much notice as possible before planned water shutdowns. During an emergency, we will try to notify affected properties, but advance notice may not always be possible.
