Welcome to the West Main Street Area Infrastructure Improvements – Phase 2 project page.
This page shares what work is happening, where it’s taking place, and how it may affect you. You’ll also find updates, resources, and ways to connect with the project team.
Scope of work
Construction is taking place on:
- West Main Street, from Prince Charles Drive to the west side of the Main Street bridge
- Denistoun Street, north of West Main Street
The project includes:
- Replacing watermains and sanitary sewers, along with service connections to properties
- Installing new cleanouts and curb boxes at the property line
- Adding a new Regional sanitary trunk sewer on West Main Street
- Rebuilding the road with a new base, asphalt, curbs, and sidewalks
- Installing new storm sewers, traffic signals, street lighting, and streetscaping on West Main Street
Traffic disruptions and road closures
Construction will require full road closures and traffic changes in the area. This measure provides safety to workers and the public during construction. We will post detour routes and signs to help guide drivers.Road closure details:
- West Main Street (regional Road 27) will be closed from Prince Charles Drive North to Division Street starting April 6 to August or September 2026. This timeline may change due to construction or site conditions. We will share updates as needed.
- The bridge will stay open. The closure will begin west of Division Street.
- Major intersections will remain open whenever possible. Short-term closures may be needed to complete pipe connections or service work.
Access to homes and businesses:
- All businesses in the area will remain open during construction. Access will be restricted at times for construction activities, such as removals, services, and new sidewalks and curbs.
- Residents within the closure area will still be able to access their homes. Alternate parking outside of work zones will be required.
Water shutdowns
Water will need to be shut off at times during construction so we can connect new services and tie the new watermain into the existing system.
We will give residents and businesses as much advance notice as possible before any planned shutdowns. In emergency situations, we will try to notify you, but it may not always be possible.
If your water appears brown or discoloured, run the tap until it clears. If it is still discoloured after 20 minutes, call 905-735-1700 x3000.
Where are we on the public participation spectrum?
