The City of Welland currently operates two arena facilities located at 501 King Street. These arenas are home to the Welland Junior Canadiens Jr. B Hockey Team, the Welland Minor Hockey Association, and host various leagues, community groups, tournaments, and events.
Given the age and condition of these facilities, substantial investments will be necessary over the next decade to maintain and improve them, as based on the building condition assessments. Moreover, with Welland’s projected population growth and increasing demand for ice-related activities, proactive planning is essential.
The arena feasibility study will identify opportunities for improvements to the existing arenas, explore potential sites for a new facility, and provide cost estimates for each option.
Once the study is complete, City staff will present a recommendation and budget to Council. The approved budget will guide the next steps, including more detailed design work and determining when any improvements or new construction might begin. Specific timelines are yet to be finalized.
