In 2019, the City of Welland completed a 10-year Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan to guide the delivery of parks, recreation, and culture services. The plan called for a review at the five-year mark to assess progress and ensure its priorities continue to reflect the needs of a growing community.
That review is now complete, and Welland City Council has approved the updated Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan. More than 90 per cent of the recommendations in the original plan have been completed or are underway.
Community input helped shape the update, with residents identifying trails and active transportation, recreational canal opportunities, natural and green spaces, and inclusive programming as important priorities.
The updated plan provides a roadmap for future planning and investment in parks, recreation facilities, trails, programs, and cultural spaces. It also recognizes the importance of maintaining existing assets and making responsible, sustainable investments as Welland continues to grow.
The City will use the approved plan to guide future decisions and help ensure residents of all ages and abilities have access to parks, programs, facilities, and opportunities that support an active, connected, and inclusive community.
