Consultation has concluded

The original Forks Road Bridge was closed to vehicular traffic in 2018 due to corrosion and was removed in April 2019. As part of a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Welland, Empire Communities has committed to replacing the Forks Road Bridge as a cost-share project with the City. The City has been approved for Provincial and Federal funding from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program: Rural and Natural Stream initiative, which has significantly offset the City’s share of the project costs. The new Forks Road Bridge is a two-lane, three-span bridge with eastbound and westbound bike lanes, and a pedestrian sidewalk on the north boulevard.

The bridge construction is complete and the bridge opened to traffic on August 16, 2024. The bridge reopening, a ribbon-cutting ceremony with City officials and project partners is scheduled for Friday, August 23, 2024 at 10 a.m.
