The City of Welland is undertaking a watermain program along Canal Bank Street between Ontario Road and 320 m south of Highway 58A.
Construction
- Installation of 65 m of watermain by open cut method from stub 320 m south of Hwy 58A to Canal Bank Street bridge
- Installation of 155 m of insulated hung watermain on the Canal Bank bridge over the CPKC railway corridor
- Installation of 152 m of watermain by trenchless technology under the Ministry of Ontario Highway 58A corridor
- Installation of 1100 m of watermain by open cut method from Highway 58A to the stub south of Ontario Road
- Trench restoration including granular and asphalt within the roadway
- Hydrant installation
Traffic Disruptions
- One-way traffic with flag persons through the construction zones when permissible (minor periods of road closures may be required throughout construction)
- Open to two-way traffic nightly and on weekends/holidays when permissible.
- Canal Bank Street North right-hand turn lane to Highway 58A will be closed to traffic.
Impacts to Private Property
- Topsoil and sod to be reinstated where disturbed due to construction activities
- Driveway closures required for construction will be communicated in advance to affected property owners
- Driveways that have been disturbed due to construction will be reinstated to match the existing material
Next Steps
- Re-commencement of construction for the final trenchless watermain crossing under Highway 58A will begin late November 2025/early December 2025.
- Watermain works are anticipated to be completed in January 2026, with final restoration in Spring 2026.
